Redi’s Experiment
This experiment was done by Italian physician Francesco Redi
in 1684 A.D in support of biogenesis. His another purpose was to prove that fly
maggot didn’t evolve from flesh.
Experiment: In this
experiment he took three jar i.e Jar A,
Jar B and Jar C. He kept a lump of boil meat in all three jar as a source of
nutritive medium for fly maggot. He boiled the lump of boiled meat to make it
sterile. Then he closed the mouth of Jar
A with Parchment paper(Baking paper), closed the mouth of Jar B with muslin
cloth and he left the moth of Jar C completely uncovered. He left the experiment for few days.
Observation : After few days of experiment , he notice that
there was maximum growth of fly maggot in Jar c and he found nothing growth in
Jar A and Jar C. This is because the preexisting form fly maggot in the atmosphere
could enter the moth of Jar C. They found boiled as source of nutritive medium
and laid eggs over the boiled meat. They egg hatched and fly maggot could be
seen in the Jar A.
Hence, this experiment concludes that fly maggot didn’t evolve from
flesh but from preexisting form which is present in the atmosphere and when
they found suitable medium they can grow and multiply.
Spallanzani’s Experiment
This experiment was done by Italian scholar Lazzaro
Spallanzani in 1765 A.D in support of biogenesis.
Experiment: In this experiment Spallanzani took 8 testube 4
on other side and 4 on other side. He poured hay infusion in all the test-tube
as a source of nutritive medium. He boiled the hay infusion to make it sterile.
He then closed the mouth of first 4 test-tube with cork and rest 4 was made
airtight. After that he left the experiment for few days.
Observation: After few days he noticed growth of very tiny
microorganism in corked testube and didn’t find any form of life in the Air
tight testube. This is because the preexisting form of microorganisms found in
the air could enter the corked testtube and couldn’t enter the airtight testube.
They found hay infusion as source of nutritive medium and their growth was see.
Hence, this experiment concludes that life
didn’t originate from non-living or inanimate substance but from preexisting
form which may be present in the environment and when they get suitable medium
they can grow and multiply.
Pasteur’s Experiment
This experiment was done by French Biochemist Louis Pasteur in
1864 A.D in support of biogenesis.
Experiment: Pasteur took a swan necked flask in his
experiment. He poured hay infusion in it as a source of nutritive medium and
boiled it from the flash below to make it sterile. He then closed the mouth of
the flask and left it for 18 months.
Observation: After 18 months he didn’t notice any form of
life in the flask. He then broke the mouth of the flask. When he broke the
mouth of the flask the hay infusion came in contact with air due to which
growth of microorganism was seen in the flask.
Hence,
this experiment concludes that life didn’t originate from non-living or
inanimate substance but from preexisting form which may be present in the environment
and when they get suitable medium they can grow and multiply.
